Google Search for mobile adds app results

Google announced the addition of application results to Google Search for mobile, incorporating special links and content at the top of query results in an effort to improve app discovery and access. "As mobile apps continue to proliferate in stores like Android Market and the iPhone App Store, finding relevant information on the web about these apps is becoming more important to help you decide which apps to download," write Google software engineers Milena Nikolic and Paul Hadfield on the Official Google Mobile Blog. According to Nikolic and Hadfield, app-specific results are available at Google.com to iPhone and Android smartphone users--links go directly to the application's individual Android Market or App Store download page. Results additionally include basic details including the app's price, rating, and publisher.

For now, mobile app search results are limited to U.S. consumers. Google notes that additional international markets as well and an expanded slate of mobile device platforms are planned for the future.
