Google transfers patents to HTC in fight against Apple

Smartphone maker HTC has new ammunition in its ongoing patent infringement fight with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL): Nine patents acquired last week from Google (NASDAQ:GOOG). Bloomberg reports that Google assumed ownership of the patents less than a year ago, with four originating via Motorola, three from Openwave Systems and two from Palm. Apple claims that HTC devices running Google's Android operating system copy elements of Apple's iPhone--in a complaint filed this week with the U.S. International Trade Commission, HTC now alleges Apple is infringing on patents obtained from Google.
