Gowalla expands to BlackBerry

Location-based social networking service Gowalla issued the first public beta of its Gowalla for BlackBerry application. The beta includes photos and commenting on Spots, as well as improved notification options. Writing on the Gowalla Blog, community manager Jonathan Carroll notes that the BlackBerry app will soon include Trips and Items as well.

One of a growing wave of location-centric social networking platforms alongside Foursquare, Loopt and Brightkite, Gowalla promises rewards for users who "check in" at participating establishments. Research firm RJMetrics estimates close to 362,000 users have signed up for the service. Gowalla announced a native Android application in March.
