Gracenote debuts mobile music platform
Digital entertainment solutions provider Gracenote announced the launch of its Mobile Music 2.0 Platform, an integrated solution promising simplified content search and discovery, music recognition and connection to online music stores. The solution, based on Gracenote's Global Media Database and comprising more than 60 million tracks, combines the capabilities of the PC, online music storefront and handset domains. According to Gracenote, users can access the Global Media Database to identify CDs via PC and then transfer the music and associated album art to their handsets, as well as conduct on-device searches for instant connection to relevant premium content. In addition, Gracenote's Mobile Music service identifies songs and provides recommendations based on artist type, era, origin and genre.
Sony Ericsson's newly-announced W910 Walkman and K850 Cyber-shot are the first handsets to offer the Gracenote Mobile Music Platform; both devices will ship in the fourth quarter of 2007. "Gracenote is extremely excited to be expanding our partnership with Sony Ericsson and continuing to be an integral part of enhancing the digital music experience for music phone users," said Gracenote senior VP of sales and marketing Jim Hollingsworth in a prepared statement. "Gracenote's mobile music platform addresses the increased demand for the combined convenience of a mobile handset, online store and PC, and accelerates the potential of mobile music--for both the consumer and the carriers--through the integration of those three domains."
