Handango's $60 million windfall funding
More big money is getting thrown around in the mobile industry today, with Handango scoring a sweet $60 million from a group of venture capital firms, including Institutional Venture Partners and Advanced Technology Ventures. The company says it plans to use the funding to buy out much of early investor Q Investments's stake in the company, as well as to expand its operations beyond the U.S. market, where about 90 percent of its focus has been to date. Additionally, it wants to shift focus from just smartphones to the broader handset market, as devices grow in sophistication.
