Handmark inks apps deal with Freedom Communications
Mobile media solutions provider Handmark announced an agreement with Freedom Communications to develop and support mobile applications spotlighting the company's print and broadcast media properties. On April 2, Handmark introduced a mobile app touting content from Freedom's flagship newspaper The Orange County Register--the app features top stories, video and photos, giving users the tools to customize what news topics or blogs appear in their "My News" tab. Information may also be stored for offline viewing and shared via Facebook, Twitter, delicious or e-mail.
The Freedom portfolio includes roughly 100 daily and weekly publications, among them 30 daily newspapers--its broadcast channels, including five CBS affiliates, two ABC network affiliates and one CW affiliate, reach more than 3 million households across the U.S. Handmark will next launch apps for CBS affiliate WPEC-TV 12 in West Palm Beach Fla., as well as The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo. and The Daily Press in Victorville, Calif. The apps will be available across all mobile browsers and smartphones.
