Time Warner-owned premium cable network HBO is poised to extend its HBO Go streaming service to iOS and Android devices in early May.

Game of Thrones for HBO GOA new teaser video produced for HBO's YouTube channel promises instant and unlimited streaming access to "every episode of every season of your favorite HBO shows, plus hit movies and much more," all free to existing HBO subscribers across Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad as well as smartphones and laptops. The teaser ends by indicating HBO Go will live on connected devices on May 2.

HBO first indicated plans to expand HBO Go to mobile devices in August 2010. At that time, HBO co-president Eric Kessler told Bloomberg the network planned to widen the scope of its digital efforts in lieu of inking a movie rental and video streaming service provider Netflix. "There is value in exclusivity," Kessler said, stating consumers "are willing to pay a premium for high quality, exclusive content."

First launched in early 2010, HBO Go touts over 1,400 titles including current series like Boardwalk Empire and the new Game of Thrones as well as classic programs like The Sopranos and Deadwood, alongside original films, miniseries, sports, documentaries and features from Warner Bros., Twentieth Century Fox and Universal Pictures. Earlier this month, broadcast satellite service provider DirecTV said it will extend HBO Go and sister service MAX Go online video services to iOS and Android later this year. As of last week, DirecTV subscribers across the U.S. may now access HBO Go and MAX Go via any broadband-connected computer.
