Hearst Magazines makes mobile push

Tools

Hearst Magazines Digital announced it will team with Verizon Wireless' Mobile Web 2.0 service to launch free, ad-supported mobile websites tied to titles including Seventeen, Cosmopolitan and Cosmo Girl, effectively replacing the premium mobile sites the publisher has operated for several years. Leading the charge is Seventeen Mobile, an interactive service featuring health news, beauty tips, horoscopes and "daily traumas" targeted to youth subscribers. Seventeen is the largest teen publication in the U.S., reaching 17 million subscribers per month.

Hearst is also planning mobile web destinations for Esquire, Popular Mechanics and other pubs. "The new mobile sites for all of our magazines will have richer, more interactive content and will be tied more closely to the magazine's editorial content, in addition to being free to any consumer," a Hearst spokesperson told Online Media Daily.
