Helio adds online content, feels the Heat
MVNO Helio announced the addition of popular online sites Wikipedia, Boing Boing, Digg and Metroblogging to its WAP deck in tandem with the debut of the operator's latest mobile handset, the Samsung-produced Heat. According to Helio, the aforementioned websites are all making their first appearances on the mobile platform--Boing Boing and Metroblogging are already available to subscribers, while Wikipedia and Digg are scheduled to make their bow later this month. As for the Heat, its selling points emphasize Helio's mobile multimedia focus, and include MP3, MPEG-4 and VOD support, Helio Music compatibility and built-in GPS capabilities for access to Helio services like Google Maps and Buddy Beacon.
"Helio is designed for people constantly in touch with their world, whether calling, texting, gifting their favorite content to friends, or participating in online communities," Helio senior VP of strategy and business development Michael Grossi said in a prepared statement. "Our members are always on the go, so optimizing mobile access to their favorite online sites lets them stay connected whenever they're away from their PC."
