HipCricket rolls out mobile coupon service

Mobile marketing firm HipCricket introduced a new measureable mobile coupon targeting retailers and quick-service restaurants, providing consumers with single-use promotional codes that are fully trackable by any point of sale system that accepts Visa or MasterCard. According to HipCricket, the solution is optimized for all 240 million U.S. handsets optimized for text messaging--the consumer texts a designated keyword to a shortcode to receive a mobile voucher including an eight-digit unique code and a promotional message, and when the voucher is entered into the retailer's POS system via cash register or card reader, its validity is checked in real time with a coupon server. If the voucher is valid, it is redeemed; if not, a detailed message is returned for checkout management.

HipCricket adds that the software-as-a-service offering requires no new hardware, servers or infrastructure, ties into existing membership and loyalty programs, and delivers real-time analytics and reporting data, enabling businesses to make changes mid-campaign and optimize performance on the fly.
