Hollywood writers, producers to resume talks
With the Writers Guild of America strike now more than two weeks old, Hollywood screenwriters are scheduled to resume negotiations with producers on Monday, heralding their first return to the bargaining table since Nov. 4. On Tuesday, representatives of the Writers Guild of America East and the Writers Guild of America West took to the streets of Hollywood in a demonstration complete with a performance by R&B diva Alicia Keys and, for whatever reason, an appearance by eight aging actors who co-starred as Munchkins in the classic The Wizard of Oz.
Hollywood scribes are seeking their share of income derived from webisodes, mobisodes and other scripted new-media formats. Writers and producers are also squaring off on a series of related issues, including broadening the scope of cable programming under WGA jurisdiction, adding reality series and animation to the contract and increasing residuals on DVDs.
