Hong Kong mulling mobile TV regulations
Hong Kong service providers and broadcasters are gearing up for battle as their government launches a study of mobile television services that will determine the nascent market's regulatory framework. Analysts anticipate Hong Kong will require mobile television service licenses in relation to spectrum acquisition, a decision broadcasters vehemently oppose--according to broadcaster TVB, its existing license to deliver terrestrial TV services entitles the media giant to deliver mobile TV services without obtaining additional spectrum. Government leaders are still considering whether to also regulate mobile TV content.
