iGR: Over half of mobile developers building iPhone apps
Fifty-three percent of mobile developers are now creating applications for Apple's iPhone platform, with about half of those developers not currently building iPhone apps planning to do so in the next 12 months, according to a new survey conducted by market strategy consultancy iGR. Research In Motion's BlackBerry follows iPhone in regards to developer focus, trailed by Google's Android and Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5--iGR notes that when it conducted a similar developer survey in 2009, Windows Mobile was by far the leading operating system.
Developers are currently writing applications for an average of 2.4 separate platforms, a number iGR expects to grow to 3.4 over the next 12 months. Asked to identify the five most critical factors when selecting a mobile platform, more than half of developer respondents cited multi-touch.
