Indian MoCo company raises $10M in VC round
Indian MoCo entertainment provider Mauj Telecom announced a $10 million round of venture capital led by WestBridge Capital Partners with additional funding from Intel Capital and Sequoia Capital. Mauj offers on mobile music, gaming, mobile commerce and mobile messaging and supports mobile platforms like J2ME, Smartphone, BREW, Symbian, SS7 and I-Mode. The company is also a huge proponent of regional language gaming in India and already has a presence in 11 languages. Mauj recently estimated that 40 percent of its revenues in the next one or two years will come from regional language gaming.
Mauj is also pushing mobile games based on Bollywood films. Such games are becoming more widespread in the country as its movie industry faces slimmer profit margins. Mobile gaming, in particular, is being recognized by Bollywood execs as a moneymaker with a big potential. However, with about 50 Bollywood-inspired games on the market currently that generated approximately 10,000 downloads each, the offerings still only provide a modest income.
