InMobi: Smartphones yield 78% of mobile ad impressions
Smartphones accounted for 78 percent of ad impressions across InMobi's North American network in the second quartet of 2011, up from 67 percent in the previous quarter, the firm reports. At the current rate of growth, InMobi projects that smartphones will generate 90 percent of ad impressions by the fourth quarter of 2011, adding that in-app ads will generate roughly half of those impressions.
Total InMobi impressions across both smartphones and feature phones increased from 8.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011 to 14.6 billion in the most recent quarter, a 40 percent leap. Smartphone impressions grew 64 percent over the period.
Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone yielded 15 percent of InMobi's North American impressions in the second quarter, more than any other device. Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android is the dominant mobile operating system across the InMobi network, accounting for 33.2 percent of impressions--Apple's iOS is close behind at 29.3 percent, followed by Research In Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry at 13.9 percent.
