Intel reaffirms commitment to MeeGo
Intel is denying rumors it plans to halt development of MeeGo, the open-source platform combining its former Moblin efforts with Nokia's (NYSE:NOK) former Maemo platform. Earlier this year, Nokia inked a broad strategic partnership with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) that positions the software maker's Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system as Nokia's primary smartphone platform, throwing MeeGo's future into serious doubt. Despite recent reports to the contrary, Intel says it remains "fully committed" to MeeGo's development: "Nothing is changing," Intel vice president Doug Fisher tells The Wall Street Journal, while also suggesting the company is looking for a partner to replace Nokia.
