iPhone already dominates Opera Mini use in U.S.

Tools

Just two weeks after Opera Software announced that Apple approved its Opera Mini mobile browser for the iPhone--the first time the computing giant has allowed a rival browser access to its App Store to compete against the smartphone's native Safari--Opera reports that the iPhone is already the number one device used by Opera Mini users in both the U.S. and the U.K., as well as the third leading device worldwide. Opera adds that thanks to enormous Opera Mini adoption among American iPhone users, the U.S. may soon have the fifth-most Opera Mini users globally, displacing Nigeria, South Africa and Ukraine on its climb up the firm's Top 10 list.

Opera's latest State of the Mobile Web Report notes that even prior to earning App Store approval, Opera Mini users increased 9.3 percent month-over-month in March 2010, up more than 140 percent compared to March 2009 totals. Opera Mini now boasts 55.2 million users worldwide, with page views growing to 25.8 billion last month, a 17.4 percent increase over February 2010 and a 200 percent annual leap.
