iPhone titles a fifth of all Gameloft sales in Q1
Mobile game developer and publisher Gameloft reported first quarter sales of €33 million ($43.9 million U.S.), up 7 percent year-over-year from €30.8 million/$40.9 million U.S. Europe represented 37 percent of Gameloft's Q1 sales, with North America accounting for 32 percent and the rest of the world making up the remaining 29 percent. Gameloft credits the growth to increased market share across Java and BREW devices as well as increased smartphone penetration, adding that Apple's iPhone alone represented 21 percent of its first quarter sales. Gameloft has so far issued 63 iPhone games since the App Store opened in mid-2008--the firm notes it plans to diversify its portfolio across other platforms, including Apple's fledgling iPad.
