Jumptap: Apple's iPad generating 75% of tablet traffic

Tools

Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad tablet yields 75 percent of all tablet traffic across the Jumptap mobile advertising network, far ahead of tablets running Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system (20 percent) and HP's in-limbo webOS (4 percent), according to Jumptap's MobileSTAT Report for August 2011.

Fifty-six percent of the Jumptap network's tablet traffic originates outside the U.S., the firm states--conversely, just 28 percent of the firm's overall mobile traffic originates beyond American shores. In addition, 75 percent of tablet traffic is generated by devices connected to Wi-Fi networks, calling into question whether 3G connectivity is a selling point for tablet products.

The Jumptap network now reaches 142 million users worldwide and yields 11 billion mobile ad impressions each month. Despite the iPad's dominance in the tablet space, Android remains the overall operating system market share leader across the network at 47 percent. Taken together, Android, Apple's iOS and Research In Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry account for 90 percent of all Jumptap impressions.

In terms of advertising performance and consumer response, iOS leads the competition with a click-through rate of 0.71 percent. Jumptap adds that the Telecom, Entertainment and Insurance verticals yielded the highest CTRs in August, while males, users between the ages of 45 and 74, and consumers reporting income levels in excess of $50,000 exhibit the greatest propensity to click on ads.
