Kindle 3G with Special Offers now Amazon's bestselling e-reader
Two months after Amazon.com unveiled the 3G-enabled version of its ad-supported Kindle with Special Offers, the device now outsells all other Kindle versions, the online retailer announced. Amazon introduced Kindle 3G with Special Offers in late May, with a price of $164--earlier this month, AT&T (NYSE:T) signed on to sponsor screensavers on the device, bringing the retail cost down to $139.

Amazon.com introduced the original, non-3G Kindle with Special Offers in mid-April. The device incorporates homescreen deals and sponsored screensavers. Amazon has vowed it will not integrate ads directly into Kindle titles.
Amazon's Kindle Store now offers more than 950,000 e-books, including 110 of the 111 current New York Times Bestsellers. Over 800,000 of Kindle titles are priced at $9.99 or less. Amazon now sells more Kindle books than hardcover and softcover volumes combined: As of April 1, Amazon consumers purchase 105 Kindle titles for every 100 print books.
Amazon.com second quarter sales increased 51 percent year-over-year to $9.91 billion, the company announced Tuesday. Net income decreased 8 percent to $191 million.
