Klout moves into mobile by acquiring Blockboard

Tools

Social influence index Klout has acquired neighborhood interaction app Blockboard, expanding its social metrics platform to the mobile and local segments. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Klout enables users to track the influence of their opinions, recommendations and links across the social graph, matching influential Facebook and Twitter voices to relevant marketers to earn exclusive products and experiences. Earlier this year, Klout announced a $30 million Series C funding round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Blockboard--Klout's first-ever acquisition--is a virtual bulletin board connecting Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS device owners to their neighborhood, offering tools to help meet other locals, access nearby news and events, identify deals and report problems to city officials. At present, Blockboard is limited to neighborhoods across San Francisco; Klout CEO Joe Fernandez tells Mashable that Blockboard will continue to exist as a standalone app, with the team behind the technology joining the Klout staff.
