Kobo extends ebook services to Android

Ereader solutions provider Kobo announced its availability across smartphones powered by Google's Android mobile operating system. Available for free download via Android Market, the Kobo app supports ePUB file formats including rich text and images--more than 2 million titles are now available (thousands for free), with bestsellers starting at $9.99. Existing Kobo users can login to their account and start reading books immediately.

The global, device-neutral Kobo platform also includes iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry applications as well as the firm's dedicated Kobo eReader unit, priced at $149.99 and preloaded with 100 classic books.
