Korea: No spectrum for MediaFLO

Tools

Korean official threw cold water on QUALCOMM's MediaFLO plans in the country when it said there was a lack of available broadcast spectrum needed to support the mobile television service. Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication said, "There will be no available channels until 2010 when frequencies are returned to the government in time with conversion of analog TV to digital." MediaFLO uses over the air signals to deliver video and audio to mobile devices. QUALCOMM said it will pursue a solution, especially since Korea is the country that helped QUALCOMM surge to the spotlight when it was the first to launch a CDMA network in the world.
