LG, Harris team for mobile TV spectrum solution

Tools

Communications and IT firm Harris Corporation announced the release of Scalable Full-Channel Mobile Mode, a new mobile television solution developed in conjunction with LG Electronics USA. According to Harris, Scalable Full-Channel Mobile Mode enables transmission of as many as 16 different video programs across the same 6 MHz bandwidth utilized by TV broadcasters, maximizing spectrum resources.

Harris explained that its engineers worked with LG to whittle down the main digital program enough to advertise available mobile programs to in-home viewers, ensuring that most of the 19.4 Mbps bitstream in the 6 MHz TV channel is cleared for transmission of mobile programming that can be beamed from the same broadcast infrastructure. Full-Channel Mobile Mode is designed for compatibility with the ATSC A/153 Mobile DTV Standard adopted last year.
