LG, YouTube premiere 3D mobile video on Android
BARCELONA, Spain--LG Electronics and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)-owned online video community YouTube will introduce 3D mobile video experiences in conjunction with the handset maker's forthcoming Android-based Optimus 3D smartphone, slated to launch early in the second quarter. According to LG, the Optimus 3D will enable consumers to capture and view 3D video without glasses as well as instantly upload and share clips via YouTube. LG credits the innovation to what it calls the Optimus 3D's "Tri-Dual" configuration--i.e., dual-core, simultaneous dual-channel and dual-memory. LG adds it will continue to collaborate with YouTube on future 3D entertainment initiatives as well.
YouTube now tops 200 million mobile views each day, up from 100 million in mid-2010. The site now accounts for 13 percent of total global mobile data bandwidth, according to an Allot MobileTrends report published in September 2010, which adds that YouTube now accounts for 40 percent of all mobile video streamed worldwide.
