Livestream premieres free iPhone video service

Live Internet video platform Livestream announced the launch of Livestream Podcaster, a free service optimized for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch enabling users to stream content live from their webcam, video camera or desktop via 3G or WiFi. The turnkey solution exploits the new H.264 HTTP live streaming functionality included in the native QuickTime player pre-installed on the iPhone, enabling content producers to sidestep App Store approval protocols in launching their live streaming channel and eliminating the requirement for consumers to install any application. Livestream adds that all streams are viewed on the iPhone's Safari browser. Livestream Podcaster also includes a Representational State Transfer API for developers to integrate live streaming into their own iPhone websites or applications, as well as a free streaming encoder to guarantee that no third party applications or licenses must be purchased.
