Loopt adds new content partners to iPhone app
Location-based mobile social networking service Loopt announced a new version of its free iPhone application that expands the app's Pulse feature to spotlight thousands of additional local events, also enabling event check-in, public Tips and RSVPs to affairs posted on Facebook. Loopt v2.2 features content from new partners SonicLiving (which connects music fans to local concert listings, song samples, tickets and other listeners), Zvents (an online entertainment guide powering a network of more than 285 media partners) and Metromix (a local entertainment resource spotlighting bars, restaurants and entertainment across more than 60 U.S. metropolitan markets); the app also integrates more fully into the user's social map with expanded sharing via Facebook and Twitter, and boasts a series of searching options to more effectively identify places and events.
Loopt now boasts more than 3 million registered users--the service spans across all major U.S. carriers and more than 100 handsets. Last month, the firm announced an agreement with mobile marketing services provider Mobile Spinach to integrate offers, coupons and discounts from local neighborhood retailers. Initially launching in San Francisco, with the New York City and Los Angeles markets slated to follow in the weeks ahead, the advertising service promises unique, relevant and hyper-targeted local offers unavailable from any other service provider. Loopt identifies offers available in a subscriber's immediate neighborhood, complete with directions and contact details for the retailer--offers can be redeemed directly from the phone or sent via SMS and email.
