Lou Reed's iPhone app walks on the mild side
Singer/songwriter Lou Reed--the mastermind behind avant-rock pioneers the Velvet Underground as well as classic
solo albums like Transformer and Berlin--released his first iPhone application, and it has absolutely nothing to do with music. Lou Zoom (designed by Reed and Ben Syverson, and credited to the rocker's Sister Ray Enterprises) instead enlarges information in a smartphone contact list for easier access without scrolling or panning--users can double tap the iPhone touchscreen to map an address, call a phone number or send an email. Lou Zoom also boasts "a gorgeous new user interface" set in Helvetica Neue type. "Your contacts have never looked so good or been so easy to browse," Lou Zoom's App Store page promises.
Yes, this is the same Lou Reed who once wrote songs about heroin and drag queens. People change.
