MasterCard premieres ATM Hunter for iPhone

Financial services giant MasterCard Worldwide announced the launch of its MasterCard ATM Hunter application via Apple's App Store, enabling iPhone and iPod touch users to locate the nearest cash machine regardless of their present whereabouts. According to MasterCard, the free ATM Hunter app exploits the iPhone's location awareness technologies to pinpoint the search--users may customize their search according to their unique banking needs (e.g., focusing on a specific financial institution to make a deposit or sidestep withdrawal fees) as well pinpoint wheelchair accessible, drive-through, or 24-hour access ATMs, complete with directions on getting there. In addition, MasterCard ATM Hunter automatically provides users with ATM safety tips.

MasterCard notes that ATM Hunter is the first of several iPhone and iPod touch applications it plans to launch. The company adds that more than two million consumers contact MasterCard via the Web, phone and SMS each year to determine ATM locations.
