McCaw-based venture promises personalized news content

Tools

Craig McCaw's Eagle River holdings is taking a plunge into the broadcast video realm with a new startup called 1Cast.  The firm, which launches today, will deliver near real-time news clips from content partners CNBC, the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, Reuters, AFP and others, to the desktop and smartphones.

The clips, which are called Micro-Casts, will be personalized and updated throughout the day. Consumers can either visit 1Cast on the Web or get the clips delivered to their phone.  To see a sample of the 1Cast content on different smartphones, click here.

Anthony Bontrager, president of 1Cast, says that initially the service will be available for the iPhone and Android-based devices. However, eventually it will be available for other platforms. "The upside is that these are two platforms that are suited for true digital video delivery," Bontrager said in an interview with FierceMobileContent. "These devices have the necessary screen size and functionality."
