Medio Systems unveils On-Device Portal

Tools

Mobile search and advertising solutions provider Medio Systems announced the launch of the Medio On-Device Portal, a consumer "search-and-discover" application embedded on handsets and created for mass-market users. Promising one-click access to content like real-time news, sport scores, weather, flight status and local directory information, the open-platform Medio ODP features a graphical user interface and a universal search box at the top of the handset screen. According to Medio, the ODP also enables operators to customize their portals, with T-Mobile already agreeing to pre-load the application on the Nokia 6263 and Motorola RAZR II devices. Additional phones will follow in Q1 2008.

"While smartphones are popular, it is easy to forget that 89 percent of U.S. subscribers are still using 'feature phones,'" said Medio Systems CEO Brian Lent in a prepared statement. "These phones typically retail for less than $100 and are not optimized for mobile content consumption and Internet connectivity. For these feature phone users, finding content on their device has often been a frustrating process. Now, with the Medio On-Device Portal, in just one click consumers can quickly find exactly what they are looking for and discover personalized content driven by our recommendations technology."
