Metric: $303M in VC to wireless firms in April

Tools

According to a recent report from Rutberg, wireless companies raked in $303 million of the $543 million venture capital dollars that went to digital media companies during the month of April. While Amp'd Mobile's $150 million round of funding skewed the results, even without the MVNO's contribution mobile companies took in 25 percent of the investments. Rutberg found that wireless infrastructure and mobile content companies are attracting the largest share of new capital, but this is true for content in particular. Motricity also closed a big $40 million round last month as did mobile TV chip developer Siano Mobile with its $23 million round. The firm also noted that seven of the 39 acquired companies last month were mobile services companies.
