Microsoft admits Zune problems, denies label blocking

Tools

Two months after introducing its Zune music and video player, a device touted for its wireless content-sharing capabilities, Microsoft has announced  technological snafus are preventing the service from working as promised. "Wireless sharing is a new experience and its implementation is in a version 1.0 stage," Microsoft said in an e-mail statement distributed Monday. "We will continue to make it better." Microsoft also denied rumors that record labels are preventing sharing of songs by certain acts; the buzz even prompted Universal Music Group to issue a statement of its own, which read in part "Contrary to recent and inaccurate reports, [Universal] has not prohibited its artists from participating in the Zune service. Nor has UMG restricted the ability of Zune users to transfer their music wirelessly so that others can enjoy it."

Upon its release, Zune's sharing feature, dubbed Push, was cited as a critical differentiator separating the device from Apple's market-leading iPod multimedia player. The sharing problems seem to affect only content purchased via Microsoft's Zune Marketplace storefront; according to the blog Zunearama, 21 of the 50 current best-selling song downloads from Zune Marketplace cannot be shared.

I've had this thing since x-mas...now it just froze up and wont move outside the main menu I connect to my pc fine ...if I delete the contents of the device and disconnect it start to work by that I mean I can move though the menus then in about 7 sec it freezes up again......Sh#t should have gotten an IPOD.....

Your lucky you got that much use out of it....I used mine for about 4 days for a total of about 6 hours and it completely froze and I had to send in in to be reworked. Microsoft sent me back a different used zune. Once I got it back I put all the software on my new computer and I put about 20 songs on it. Again it worked for about 6-8 hours and now only blinks Zune when I try to turn it on. It loads and then shuts off.....then loads and shuts off......over and over.
Buy an iPod not a zune!!!!!

I also got a zune... mine will fully charge and then as soon as i disconnect the power cord from my laptop the zune will cut off and wont come back on at all.... this has happened three of four times now... my brothers zune has erased of all of his data twice... nothing but problems with zunes... they are a peice of crap

My kids had 30gb zunes for their main gift last Christmas. My sons never worked, after returning it, it worked for 2 days!! My little girls broke last February. Microsoft said they would fix it for $160.00!!!!!!! What the point they don't cost much more thatn that and the piece of crap will probarbly break again!! Buy Ipod they work great. I am so disgusted that Microsoft treat their customers this way I will NEVER buy any of their products again!!
