Microsoft all set for PlayReady launch
More from 3GSM: Microsoft announced PlayReady, a new multimedia content access platform optimized for mobile operators and handset makers. Supporting multiple content formats including video, music and games as well as business models including subscription, rental and pay-per-view, PlayReady is also backwards-compatible with Microsoft Windows Media DRM 10. According to Microsoft, operators like Verizon Wireless, AT&T/Cingular, O2 and Telefonica have already announced plans to implement the PlayReady platform.
"Our wireless partners worldwide asked for a single system to power a growing array of business models and consumer scenarios--the result is Microsoft PlayReady," Microsoft Consumer Media Technology corporate VP Amir Majidimehr said in a prepared statement. "With consumer demand for digital goods of all types growing exponentially, this technology delivers a foundation for the future and accelerates the transparent delivery of rich content to consumers."
