Microsoft brings My Xbox Live gamer app to Apple's iPhone

Tools

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) launched the My Xbox Live application via Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store, for the first time extending features of its gaming network to Apple's iOS mobile operating system.

While the free My Xbox Live does not offer actual gaming experiences, the app enables iPhone and iPad users to track and compare Xbox achievements, connect with Xbox Live friends and rivals, and revamp their 3D Avatars. Gamers may also review Xbox titles, discover new games and apps, access tips and tricks and read Xbox news updates.

Earlier this week, Microsoft introduced a new Xbox companion app for its own Windows Phone mobile OS, enabling smartphone users to remotely control their Xbox console and search the unified Xbox catalog for movies, TV shows, music, games and apps.

Xbox integration is central to the Windows Phone platform. This summer, Microsoft revamped Windows Phone's Games Hub to improve and streamline the overall user experience. The changes include a cleaner, lighter design emphasizing the user's game catalog and Xbox Live info, new Recent category making it easier for users to access their favorite titles and features previously offered via the Xbox Live Extras app, including animated 3D avatars, improved messaging tools, status view updates and cross-platform scores and achievements. Windows Phone gamers may also update their profile and send/receive multiplayer game notifications.
