Microsoft launches Blink photo app for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is rolling out Blink, a free Windows Phone 8 application enabling users to capture a burst of sequential images, then select the best photo from the collection of shots.

According to Microsoft, Blink begins snapping images even before the user presses the shutter button and continues capturing pictures after the shot is taken, leveraging advanced image stabilization technology developed by Microsoft Research engineers to eliminate camera shake. Blink then presents the photos as a film strip, letting users swipe through each image to find the one they like best. Windows Phone 8 may then save Blink snapshots to their Photos hub or share via email.

Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 8 last fall. The overhauled operating system introduced "lenses," apps that open from the built-in camera app and launch into a viewfinder experience to help users capture the moment, add photo effects or create panoramic images. Third-party developers may also create their own lens apps.
