We're In allows you to see your friends' locations on a map to make organizing activities easier. |
Upon signing up for We're In by entering their phone number, consumers can leverage the device's contacts data to invite friends to share their location data with each other--to organize a happy hour meet-up or carpool, select friends from the contact list or input their phone number, tell them the plan and select how long you wish to share location information.
After your friends receive a text message with all of the relevant details, they can respond via the We're In app--non-Windows Phone users may also reply from the We're In mobile website. As each friend agrees to the plan, their present location becomes visible on the We're In map; everyone who joins can see everyone else's whereabouts. Users may update their status to indicate they're on their way, if they get stuck in traffic, etc.--they may also halt location sharing at any time.
For now, We're In is limited to Windows Phone users in the U.S. Microsoft adds it will bring the app to rival operating systems in the near future.
Seventy-three percent of users engage in mobile social networking activities on a daily basis according to an ABI Research consumer survey issued last month. Only email usage is more prevalent, with 80 percent of respondents checking their inbox via mobile device.
