Microsoft resumes Windows Phone 7 update post Samsung glitch

Tools

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has resumed rolling out a new Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system update roughly a week after some users reported the patch disabled WP7-based smartphones manufactured by Samsung. Microsoft reports that over the past week, engineers pinpointed and repaired the technical issues undermining the software update; writing on the Windows Phone Blog, Microsoft spokesman Michael Stroh reports that the bug impacted 10 percent of Windows Phone 7 units, blaming either a poor Internet connection or insufficient computer storage space.

The Windows Phone 7 update is intended to prepare devices running the fledgling OS for future software upgrades. Microsoft is expected to issue its first major Windows Phone 7 platform update later this month; the refresh is expected to include cut-and-paste functionality. A Windows Phone Developer Tools Update released in February also touts improved app performance and other enhancements.
