Microsoft revamps Bing for Mobile browsing
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) updated its Bing for Mobile search solution, introducing a series of new browsing features and touting more efficient access to information while on the go. The additions include expanded navigation information for drivers, public transit commuters and walkers, complete with real-time transit updates for the Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Los Angeles markets--commuters can now identify whether a subway train or bus is on schedule, early or delayed, with predictions for arrival times. The Bing for Mobile update also includes improved image search and reorganized shopping tools, with the search bar adding Weather Autosuggest and Instant Answers.
The new Bing for Mobile will initially roll out across Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating systems, which support HTML5. A version optimized for Microsoft's own Windows Phone 7 platform is still in the pipeline--the software maker plans to integrate HTML5 support into WP7 later this year. The iOS version also adds an app search tool that recommends relevant iPhone applications alongside conventional search results.
