Microsoft's Knook to head Vodafone web unit

Vodafone announced the hiring of former Microsoft senior VP of mobile communications Pieter Knook, who will be charged with heading up a new Internet division guiding the telecom group's mobile web efforts. The new Vodafone Internet Services unit will focus on provisioning and delivering consumer services including mobile web access, IP communications and selected content categories via mobile devices. Knook will be responsible for driving new revenue around web services, content and advertising, with an emphasis on differentiating Vodafone by means of rich, personalized customer experiences. The 17-year Microsoft vet joins Vodafone March 10.
