Millennial: Android ad impressions triple Apple's iOS in July 2011
Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system generated 61 percent of smartphone impressions across the Millennial Media mobile advertising network in July, with Android impressions increasing 15 percent month-over-month, according to the firm's latest Mobile Mix Report. Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS trails a distant second at 21 percent of Millennial smartphone impressions, followed by Research In Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry at 14 percent. Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone 7 yielded just 2 percent of Millennial smartphone impressions in July, although its impressions grew 71 percent month-over-month.

Smartphones accounted for 68 percent of all Millennial ad impressions in July, up 5 percent over the previous month. Feature phones and connected devices are now tied at 16 percent each. Apple remains the leading device manufacturer, accounting for 26 percent of all Millennial impressions last month; its iPhone generates 13.6 percent of all impressions, more than double Samsung's Android-powered Nexus S, in second with 5.73 percent.
Games remain the top application category across the Millennial Media network, representing 29 percent of impressions in July, a 35 percent month-over-month leap. The Music and Entertainment category is second, followed by Mobile Social Networking, Communications and Weather.
