Millennial Media's Windows Phone 7 ad impressions up 31% over Q1

Although Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android remained the dominant smartphone operating system across the Millennial Media mobile advertising network in June 2011, generating 54 percent of impressions, rival platforms are gaining ground, Millennial reports.

Android impressions grew only 11 percent from the first quarter to the second quarter, a smaller increase than any major smartphone OS-- Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone 7 experienced the largest quarter-over-quarter jump at 31 percent, followed by Research In Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry at 29 percent. Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS increased 18 percent in the second quarter, and Symbian impressions grew by 13 percent.

Smartphones yielded 65 percent of all Millennial Media ad impressions in June, making up all of the top 20 phones. Apple's iPhone remained the top mobile device the Millennial Media network with a 16 percent impression share. Connected devices like Apple's iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab increased 13 percent month-over-month, and now represent 18 percent of all Millennial impressions.

Mobile games generated 27 percent of Millennial impressions in the second quarter, more than any other application category. Applications optimized for iOS represented 49 percent of the overall app mix--a 12 percent quarter-over-quarter leap--while Android apps accounted for 41 percent, up 14 percent.
