Mobile advertising is ideal strategy
According to a recent survey of mobile entertainment executives conducted by the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF), most agree that mobile advertising is the ideal business strategy for mobile TV and video services. About 81 percent of the executives said advertising is a growth opportunity for the industry, 19 percent said it was a disruptive trend and none thought it was a threat to revenue. Interestingly, respondents expect media owners and mobile content providers to rake in 42 percent of revenue from mobile advertising, while carriers are expected to take 27 percent. So, ads on the cellphone aren't even controversial in the industry anymore? Well, we'll see what the consumer says. The survey is the first in a series of consultations and studies conducted by the MEF on ad-supported mobile entertainment, led by MEF members Alcatel, Fathom Partners and Upsteed.
