Mobile social gaming firm Scvngr raises $15 million
Mobile social gaming startup Scvngr has completed a $15 million financing round led by European venture firm Balderton Capital, with existing shareholders Google Ventures and Highland Capital Partners also participating. The free Scvngr app--available for iPhone and Android devices--enables gamers to check in at local destinations and solve challenges to earn real-world rewards at over 12,000 businesses; players can also snap photos and share their whereabouts via Facebook and Twitter. According to Scvngr, businesses and brands can leverage the game's challenges and rewards functionality to increase customer engagement and loyalty--the firm adds that the new funding will accelerate the game's growth curve, promising new features in the months ahead.
