Mobile TV viewers male, tech-savvy
Live from NAB: At Tuesday's MoTV conference (co-located with the National Association of Broadcasters conference), Levi Shapiro, director of audience metrics with market research firm Telephia, provided some insight into the typical mobile TV viewer. Telephia, which earlier this year said there were 6.2 million mobile TV subscribers in the U.S. at year-end 2006, says 70 percent of users are males between the ages of 18 and 34. In addition, Shapiro says Hispanics are three times more likely to subscribe to mobile video services.
A few other interesting data points: 80 percent of viewers are watching for more than five minutes per session. Mobile video subscribers are also more tech-savvy--they tend to use more mobile applications, and two-thirds are using the mobile Internet. - Sue
