MobiTV passes 2M subscriber milestone
Mobile broadcasting service provider MobiTV announced it passed the two million paying subscriber threshold, more than doubling its subscriber base in less than a year. MobiTV signed its one millionth subscriber in April 2006--since that time, the firm has launched a broadband TV service via AT&T, signed content deals that expanded its programming slate to more than 100 channels worldwide, and secured $100 million in additional financing.
"The recent hype in the mobile media space isn't all that surprising given the new contenders looking to enter the marketplace some time later this year," said MobiTV CEO, chairman and co-founder Dr. Phillip Alvelda in a prepared statement. "But nothing tells an unequivocal story of success quite like a subscriber base soaring past two million and growing faster than ever before."
