MoboTap expands Android hit Dolphin Browser to Apple's iOS
Mobile technology developer MoboTap introduced a version of its Dolphin Browser optimized for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS. The startup previously launched the free web browser across Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system, surpassing the 9 million download mark earlier this month.
Dolphin touts a finger-shaped gesture button designed to simplify web navigation as well as tabbed browsing, two sidebars for more efficient bookmarks and tools, a speed dial feature for favorite websites and a smart address bar complete with URL auto-completion and context menus. The browser also boasts Dolphin Webzine, which displays web pages as a series of thumbnail images, and enables users to switch between desktop view and mobile view.
MoboTap introduced Dolphin for Android in March 2010. In mid-July, the startup announced the close of a $10 million Series A funding round led by Sequoia Capital, with Matrix Partners also contributing. Earlier this month, MoboTap announced a deal to develop a social-themed browser optimized expressly for Japanese operator giant Softbank Mobile.
