Mobui debuts made-for-TV mobile chat app
Mobile application development agency Mobui announced the launch of Mobui Audience Chat, a mobile group chat product enabling television viewers to interact with the show they're currently watching by posting opinions, comments or questions in chat rooms via mobile device. According to Mobui, the chat app enables programmers and studios to promote new and existing series via the mobile channel, offering viewers the opportunity to pose questions to a show's host or access behind-the-scenes perspectives from cast and crew. In addition, mobile chat room postings may be broadcast on the television screen as the show airs, while an SMS-based "send to friend" feature enables subscribers to invite their contacts to download the Mobui app and join the discussion.
Mobui Audience Chat follows on the heels of the firm's introduction of its "Watch and Discuss Live Chat" application in conjunction with cable network VH1, which allows viewers to use their phone to interact in real time with friends, fans and VH1 celebrities during broadcasts. Mobui notes that Mobui Audience Chat currently operates across more than 100 different device models, including the iPhone.
