Modeo's 10 predictions for mobile TV
Modeo's president Michael Schueppert listed his top 10 predictions for mobile TV at the DVB World Forum:
- Mobile phones will only serve half the mobile TV market, other devices will become popular
- Biggest battles over next three years will be between content providers and carriers, not competing technologies
- DVB-H and FLO will succeed, DAB-based mobile TV standards and others will fail because of lack of industry support
- Media codecs Windows Media A/V and H.264/aacPlus will not harmonize
- Podcasting will be big for mobile TV
- Modeo's "prescient" use of L-band spectrum will be imitated in Europe and Asia
- The "unnecessary" number of electronic service guides confuse the market and must be harmonized or eliminated by the end of 2006
- Voting via "live" contact with a TV program will be most powerful interactive feature
- The youth market will be the grand prize, only prize (18-35) for mobile TV
- By 2009 every major broadcast channel will launch repurposed content of their programming for mobiles.
