MOG unlimited music app debuts on iPhone, Android
On-demand digital music services provider MOG expanded its mobile streaming application to the iPhone and Android platforms, promising unlimited access to over 8 million songs--including all-you-can-eat downloads--for $9.99 per month. The MOG mobile app is free to download from Apple's App Store and Google's Android Market, and includes a free three-day trial--once consumers sign up for a premium subscription, they'll enjoy "artist-only" radio stations delivering continuous, ad-free playlists. Users can also opt to add similar acts to the stream, leveraging the MOG player's patent-pending MOG Mobius music discovery engine, as well as create playlists on via the MOG.com desktop site for playback via mobile handset. MOG's Android application also offers multitasking functionality, allowing subscribers to continue listening to music while engaging with other smartphone apps; the same feature will roll out for iOS 4 users in the coming weeks.
MOG was founded in mid-2005 by David Hyman, former CEO of digital entertainment technology firm Gracenote--the company's investors include Universal Music Group and Sony Music, and its board of directors features famed producer Rick Rubin.
